Urban growth dynamics and expansion forms in 11 Tanzanian cities from 1990 to 2020

With rapid urban expansion across Tanzania, there is a need to institute steps address factors and forms as well impacts challenges associated with the observed trend. This study’s aim use spatial landscape indices analyze changes in forms, patterns, rates 11 centers Tanzania over 30-year study period (1990–2020). During past three decades, lands of cities town have grown by total 480 km2. Leapfrog growth was found most dominant form while Dodoma, capital city had highest rate when compared all other individual cities. The robust significant interaction AWMLEI MLEI Kigoma, Arusha, Mtwara, Mafinga, Tunduma In contrast, Mbeya agricultural city, Arusha tourist Tabora, Geita Lake zone areas did show their own peculiarities revealing an interesting temporal variation expansion. outcome this reveals that influence management economic socio-cultural opportunities will be effective tool for determination rapidly expanding towns Tanzania.
